About me
I was born on the last day of the year during the last century but only my age makes me a pensioner. I was born in
Cerveny Kostelec which is located in an area where some of our Czech artists, such as Alois Jirasek, Bozena Nemcova and Brothers Capek, called home.
In 1953 I graduated from the Arts and Crafts school in Prague, under professor Vaclav Markup. Since 1969 I've been a self-employed visual artist. In 1970 I spent a year studying in Western Germany near Stuttgart. In 1984 I was recognized as a Master of art handicraft. I have also done some interior renovations on important national historical monuments.
I am a member of the Association of Interior Architects within the Union of Visual Artists.
You can find my name in the encyclopaedia of Czech and Slovakian artists (Chagall 1999).
A piece of my work is included in the collections of Museum of Decorative Arts in Prague.
I was based in the centre of Prague for many years until the big flood in 2002 which demolished my studio. Since then I have been working outside of Prague.
I have a wide specialization which includes accessories, toys, puppets, wooden jewellery, wood for gastronomic purposes, even luminaries. My specialty is uniquely „sculptured bowls".
Everyone who works with wood has a positive attitude towards it. I say that wood as a product of nature naturally helps us in designing and we can fully take advantage of its qualities, like colour, design, scent, temperature and smoothness. I like to compare the life of a tree to a human being; a tree also grows, has its illnesses as well as good health. Trees serve our planet by producing oxygen, sustaining moisture, producing shelter to animals and on top of that some of them give us food. When a tree gets old, it falls as a human being does. However wood can continue to serve people as no other organic substance does. There is a suitable saying: „A human being is born into a wooden cradle, a third of his life is spent in a wooden bed and he leaves this world in a wooden box.
