About woodturning

I have taken a fancy to rotating shapes. Why? My father owned a woodturning workshop from 1933. He produced spools and other devices necessary for textile factories. At that time neither theportret s misou cotton industry nor the flex industry could exist without woodturners. I grew up in my father's workshop and his work has been the inspiration of my life. I took a fancy to rotating shapes. No surprise there, everything in universe rotates. In them I see forms linked with the universe. Woodturning offers an incredibly wide range of possibilities. Nevertheless traditional woodturning is an almost extinct craft.

In 1955 the last trade school of this specialization was closed down, in a town called Tachov. We still do have some woodturners but they don't turn wood professionally, they are „widdlers". It is not their fault, there is no longer a system to show them how it is done. New automated machines have nothing in common with the art or traditional woodturning.

In my long career I have been rediscovering long-forgotten techniques, such as elliptical turning, square turning and many others. I was thrilled at every revelation.

I am also fascinated by trying new techniques, for example by my successful experiments in wood plastification, „wet woodturning", vacuum woodturning or an invention of a new and fabulous chisel.

My artistic work is equal to none thanks to the combination of new and old techniques. I do everything myself, from design, construction right down to the final touch.
